GEDmatch, a DNA analysis site, recently announced that it had experienced two security breaches on July 19 and July 20. As a result of the breach, all user permissions were reset, which made all profiles visible to all users. The company also confirmed that its users’ DNA profile data became available to law enforcement searches. After discovering this vulnerability, the website was taken down while its parent company investigated the matter to ensure that user data is protected against potential attacks.
