An incident involving a third-party provider used by the Office of the Washington State Auditor may have exposed sensitive data of 1.6 million people who filed for unemployment in the state. Accellion, the third-party provider that was attacked, announced that it experienced a security incident in December when numerous files were exposed to unauthorized access. The information that may have been accessed was people’s name, social security number and/or driver’s license or state identification number, bank information, and place of employment. The Office of the Washington State Auditor is further investigating to see if any other data may have been accessed.
