Data Leak Alert: Around 500 Million LinkedIn Users’ Data Leaked

The personal information of around 500 million LinkedIn users was posted for sale on a hacker site. The data that is listed for sale includes names, email addresses, phone numbers, genders, and professional titles. LinkedIn responded to the incident by claiming it is not technically a “LinkedIn data breach” because the data was “actually an aggregation of data from a number of websites and companies.” Additionally, they stated that the exposed information was most likely information that was already viewable on the site. LinkedIn says no private user information was included. 

What This Means

When a site is breached, your personal information can be accessed by hackers and can be made publicly available on the internet. Any information of a person has a chance to be exposed, no matter how secure the site can be.
