On August 11, 2020, SANS, a resource for information security training, cyber security certifications and research, confirmed a security breach which was the result of a successful phishing campaign. This incident occurred after an employee fell victim to a phishing attack. SANS identified a suspicious forwarding rule and this rule forwarded 513 emails from a specific individual to a suspicious external email address. These emails included information like email, first name, last name, work title, company name, industry, address, and country of residence. Approximately 28,000 records of personally identifiable information were included in these emails. However, passwords and financial information such as credit card numbers were not accessed. The company has identified the individuals whose information was exposed, and they will be informing them of the data incident by email.
