Data Breach Alert: Mashable Confirmed Customer Data Has Been Leaked
In a recent notice to the public, Mashable confirmed that a hacker had posted a copy of a one of Mashable’s databases to the internet. Leaked information includes first and last names, location data, email addresses, gender, date of registration, IP addresses, links to social media profiles, expired OAuth tokens, and birthdays (but not year). However, Mashable mentioned in the notice that it does not store any financial data belonging to its registered users. After learning about this incident on November 4th, Mashable temporarily disabled access to all affected accounts as a precaution.
What This Means
When a site is breached, your personal information can be accessed by hackers and can be made publicly available on the internet. Any information of a person has a chance to be exposed, no matter how secure the site can be.
